On July 27, 2023 Vigil: The Longest Night was taken down from Steam and EGS with no prior notice. On August 10, 2023 the game's developer Glass Heart Studio posted a statement regarding the removal, revealing that the decision to take the game down was made by the former publisher, Neon Doctrine, who currently holds the authority to publish Vigil: TLN on different platforms. According to the statement, Neon Doctrine was against publication of the game's update called Asomrof (which contains elements of Taiwanese history) due to potential violation of China’s regulations. While the update was eventually released, Neon Doctrine deleted all official materials about it: release announcement, videos, and the rest. Neon Doctrine also witheld significant revenue from the developers, removed their backend update access, made unauthorized sales of game keys and merchandise on external platforms - all of which led to a lawsuit being filed on October 14, 2021 and a termination of contract between Glass Heart Studio and Neon Doctrine. As of August 13, 2023 the game is still unavailable for purchase on Steam and EGS, and Neon Doctrine hasn't made any comments.
