Steve is an NPC in Vigil the Longest Night. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. NPCs are characters that add contrast to the game's lore where they provide information, some are categorized as quest givers, while others are categorized as Merchants whom you can trade with or request for certain services.

Steve Information

Steve can be found on the second floor of the Gate Outpost. When spoken to Steve reveals that he lost his helmet after a night of heavy drinking, so he "borrowed" Gram's instead. As a reward for finding his helmet Steven gives Collection of Duran's Letters (also stolen) and relocates to the Tavern. He still wears Gram's helmet.

Steve was a Gate Guard of Maye Town. He was notorious among fellow Guards for being a rude drunk and stealing anything that wasn't nailed down; Captain Carl even placed a guard in front of the storage at the Gate Outpost, solely to keep Steve from stealing from it. Despite being a well known kleptomaniac Steve wasn't kicked out, as at the time Gate Guard was considered a lifelong position: "Once you become a guard, you're bound to your duty until death."

Steve took part in the Great Siege and the Battle of Giantwood and ended up being one of many who got trapped Inside of the Giantwood. There he surprised everyone who knew him by rigorously defending the seal from those trying to escape, even going as far as standing up against the Archpriest of Maye, York, when the latter started losing his mind after a whole month without food. According to Abel Steve singlehandedly killed 50 heathens. For his accomplishments he was named Saint Steve and remained a famous figure in Maye Town many centures later.

• Steve's Stinking Helm can be found Inside of the Giantwood.
• According to a tale told by Pesel long ago a drunk guard fell to death from the tower of the Gate Outpost, and ever since his death the Gate Outpost has been haunted by his headless ghost who asks anyone who sees him "Where is my helmet?".
