Patch Notes for Vigil: The Longest Night features an overview of all the patches released by the developer, Glass Heart Games. The following patches are free and focus on game balance, performance and localization issues. Patch notes are taken from announcements on Steam.

0409 Game Update - 9 April 2024

  • Damage numbers can now display up to six digits.
  • Optimized the translation for Spanish. Thx to Héctor López again!
  • Removed the background music from Peak of Weep.
  • Optimized the damage calculation.
  • Fixed the incorrectly calculated attribute damage for thrown/arcane items.
  • Damage from Molotovs and Dynamite will now be affected by fire resistance.
  • The training dummy in the weapon shop now has zero defense and magic resistance.
  • Corrected the damage range for The Flower of Doth.
  • Increased the magic move speed of Weird Pot.
  • nerf the attack power of the Staff of the Holy Six.
  • Fixed a bug where the item wheel would jump visually when rotated.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented rapid potion use while standing and equipped with a bow.
  • Fixed a bug where items could not be used when dropping off platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where The Flower of Doth would fly too far at high arcane stat.
  • Adjusted the size of the save screen capture for better visibility.
  • Added million-digit damage display.
  • Balanced the arcane items.
  • Increased the cap for throwing and arcane points to 1499.
  • While increasing abilities at the Skill Master, keep pressing the button to speed up the allocation of skill points.
  • The Sunrise Ring's arcane stat increases with each cycle, allowing players to track the current game cycle.
  • Daylight's damage increases with each cycle.
  • The Mysterious Trader now offers three new items after completing her quest:
  • VIP Ring: Provides discounts on store purchases.
  • Eye of the Sorcerer Ring: Restores MP when dealing damage to enemies.
  • Flawless Jade Ring: Provides a Rejuvenation effect. It shatters after activation.

DLC

  • Two new DLC maps: Amethyst Catacombs and The City of Roots. You can get the key to the Amethyst Catacombs in your home after defeating Dephil, or during your second playthrough. Amethyst Catacombs is located underneath the boss room in the Mine.


Battle Related

  • Dash button added. Go to System to set up the control and to turn the "Double tap Dash" on and off.
  • Fixed Healing Potion's Health restore calculation, and the incorrect Health restore calculation when the weapon is enchanted with Cursed Stone. Initial Health restore nerfed from 45% to 30%. Restored Health amount now shows during healing process.
  • Fixed the issue of some attacking techniques displaying damage output amount more than once.
  • Bosses in later parts of the game received buffs.
  • Camera shaking effects optimized.
  • Skeleton bat now drops bone type items.
  • Spider silk triggering speed increased.
  • Fixed bear's execution animation.
  • Fixed the bug of particle effects remaining on the screen after using the Starburst Compass.
  • Fixed the bug of bomb effects remaining on the screen after Gnawing Beast had died.
  • EXP player gain after defeating a creature now changes depending on the difficulty selected.
  • Overpowering Arcanes are nerfed, and the damage and effects of throwing items are buffed.
  • Brood Mother damage calculation optimized. When playing the game on Hard mode, her ground slams will generate falling rocks.
  • Ghoul makes a warning sound before dropping to the ground.
  • Optimized the camera shake effects.
  • Display the number of Health restored by Healing Potion and life-draining weapons.
  • Fixed Princess Downaly not respawning in some situations. Fixed Rejuvenation not activating when killed by hanging icicles. Magic damage balanced.
  • Fixed the bug of negative status remaining after death.
  • Snake wizard now requires less time to enhance its companions.

Mission

  • After completing the Monazite mission, the Mysterious Trader will add a new item to her inventory.
  • Talk to Isabella again after she is recovered to get a Little Flower Origami.
  • Added a barber on Cat Isle, and a Blademaster on the right.
  • Player can make new equipment at the Hunter's House Teleport point after obtaining blueprints .
  • On the Gold Rush mission, when player return the bow to the hunter brothers, the mission will show as fail.
  • Fixed all other known mission bugs.

Exploration

  • Fixed the bug caused player unable to control Leila after talking with Lantern Keeper on Death's Destination.
  • Display particle effects when player is on the shaking elevator to the boss room in Death's Destination.
  • Saving the game using the Fledgling's Blood Soul after defeating the boss for the first time used to result in the wall on the right getting blocked. This bug on Death's Destination is now fixed.
  • Fixed item defects shown on parts of the map.
  • The Frozen Realm optimized. New drops added. Performance optimized.
  • Fixed the bug where after the Float Platform is activated, the game does not save the platform status.
  • Areas in the another dimension show maps now.
  • Fixed the route use for the delivery of the Crystals to the Doctor, and the bug of Nordell appears inside the Giantwood.

Protagonist

  • When using a sword, the first ground attack speed increased by 0.1 second, but the damage output is nerfed.
  • Fixed the bug of successfully performing an execution but the game failed to carry out the execution, and the issue of counter attack time being too short.
  • Adjusted dual weapon's off-hand attack damage output, and Meteor Shower damage output. Hit box size increased for dual weapons when performing heavy attack in the air.
  • Fixed character unable to crouch immediately after performing a normal attack using dual weapons.
  • Fixed arrow amount incorrectly calculated after performing the Archer's Step.
  • Increased the Attack of a full charged Power Shot.
  • Added the attacks affected by the axe technique Precise Strike.
  • Optimized the trigger that determines the release of axe techniques. Reduced the air time when performing regular attack in the air.
  • You can switch your weapon when you're in a non-combat action (e.g. jump and dash)
  • Increased sliding speed.
  • Falling damage calculation adjusted.

Items and Equipment

  • Removed the maximum Attack the Longstrider's Ring can add to the wearer as the map is unlocked.
  • Balanced weapon and equipment stats, and nerfed overpowering weapons: Staff of the Holy Six, Mechanical Bow, and enchanted Owl Claymore.
  • Equipment that consumes Stamina now requires more Stamina after forging. All equipment affected by the fix received a buff.
  • The Stinking Helm caused poison to both Leila and enemies.
  • The extra damage cause by the paralysis enchantment from the Head of Uptancos received a nerf.
  • Phantom Daggers special effects optimized, and there is a higher chance of unleashing a dagger and the daggers received an Attack buff.
  • Dephil, Raven, Black, Bondage, and Guard suit added Propertie bonus.
  • Player can now make 7 new equipment with blueprints at the Hunter's House next to the Teleport point.
  • Flaming Magpie nerfed. Injured enemy blood splatter effects removed.
  • Hand of Glory mechanics optimized. The chance of stealing now affected by Arcane and the chance of item and money drop. Cue sound effects added. Hitbox size increased.
  • Time Deviation cooldown time reduced.
  • The maximum stacks of creature drops changed to 999.
  • Increased Vessel of the Holy Six damage output and Health restoration.
  • Beaded Night Stones, Braided Rope of Bitter Vines, and Cyan Frankincense can now be kept in the NG+.
  • Some the equipment models updated.

UI

  • Button assigning bug fixed.
  • When buying and selling, or accessing items, the number of the selected item adds up or reduces faster if player continue to press the select button.
  • Save file time display double-digits for minutes and seconds.
  • UI text font size enlarged. Black borderline around the font removed.
  • In the Storage UI, player can organize items in the bag (player cannot organize items in the Storage), weapons and equipment will be organized according to their types.
  • Increased minimap scrolling speed in the Map UI.
  • Fixed all incorrect icon locations for doors, teleport points, and hidden weapons on the minimap, and the location names displayed at the incorrect spots on the map.
  • Shimmer's Church interior minimap display issue fixed .
  • Fixed Breathe of the Goddess icon display incorrectly on the map.
  • Minimap optimized. Increased brightness and strengthen map border.
  • Fixed occasional item frame flickering when displaying in the Store, and Storage.
  • Save file screenshot size and location optimized.

Sound Effects

  • Added new elevator, dialogues, and document sound effects. Low volume sound effects optimized.

The Bounty of the Night Update - 3 February 2021

Patch Two: Controller Update and Bug Fixes - 11 November 2020

Major Update

  • Lower lowered enemy attributes (HP, EXP, Attack, etc.) in NG+ and further rounds of NG+. This caters to the needs of hardcore players and story/quest lovers! A round 20 enemy's power is roughly equal to previous version's power at round 6. We welcome hardest-core players to challenge Vigil for 100 rounds!
  • Now Character's Arcane attribute will increase more Arcane spell damage and mana.
  • Increased the Flaming Magpie's basic damage.
  • Vigil: The Longest Night now uses Steam Input to read gamepad inputs. For older players - you need to revert to your Global Steam Input Settings

Map

  • Fixed - Bug that allowed player to see the closed path using Glowing Orb.
  • Fixed - Bug that when in 5:4 resolution screen, the player will be blocked by an air wall after entering the Brood Mother area.
  • Added - A hint of light to the entrance of the cave to reveal a hidden path.
  • Optimized- Map fog clearance improved
  • Deleted - Incorrect treasure chest at the Peak of Weep.
  • Fixed- A bug that allowed player to pass through walls in the Cemetery.
  • Adjusted - BGM in the Forest areas.
  • Optimized - Lowered the brightness in certain scene
  • Fixed - A bug that the map won't show player's location when checked inside the Giantwood
  • Optimized- Moved the teleporter's location to the Shadow Disaster to the entrance
  • Optimized - Lowered the sound effects of the ice cube attack in The Frozen Realm
  • Adjusted - Location of the Elevator Lever and enemies in the Secret Trail.
  • Fixed - Clear the last teleport place before starting new game +. You can't use Owl's Feather before interacting with another Owl Statue
  • Fixed - An issue that after completing the Mine Pit, sliding backward on the ramp causes the player to fall out of the scene

Monsters

  • Optimized- Removed the Craving Terror's jump-oppressing action
  • Optimized - Removed the Brood Mother's falling rock attack after her ground attack.
  • Fixed - The bug that allowed the players to get behind the Brood Mother.
  • Optimized - Kelpie's overall actions.
  • Reduced the delay between Lord of the Misty Lake Boss intro and combat.
  • Fixed the damage triggering issue of Erupting Flesh Cluster's fire attack. Can no longer be burned once the flame attack is finished.
  • Optimized - Scholar of the Sacred Wood's special effects.
  • Optimized - Extended the AI search distance of certain bosses.
  • Tara's jump height has been increased.
  • Optimized - Strengthened the Mutated Flesh enemies in Maye Sewer.
  • Added - A few Explosive Old Man enemies to the mine
  • Adjustment - Earth Spider can be attacked while hiding
  • Adjustment - Raised the height of the event frame in the Lord of the Misty Lake's boss fight so players can't move behind it anymore.
  • Fixed - Poison damage no longer stuns enemies for long periods but does interrupt their actions.
  • Adjustment - Tweaked the animation of the Hammer Miner. It's easier to interrupt his movements now.

Main Character

  • Optimized - Two-handed weapon's charging action, trigger timing and animation.
  • Optimized - Minor modification to the trigger timing of "Comet Strike" skill.
  • Fixed - Bug where the player couldn't stun an enemy after learning "Foresight" skill
  • Optimized - All sword's special effect and sound effect.
  • Fixed - bug that after exhaustion the gasping animation failed to trigger.
  • Fixed - The issue where air-dash cannot be used immediately after falling while running.

Equipment

  • Fixed- A bug that uses Arcane items twice while airborne
  • Adjustment - Fishbone Bow's weapon action now has an area of effect
  • Added - Curved Daggers now have a unique weapon action - Cross Slash
  • Optimization - Increase the attack range of the Golden Hammer.
  • Optimization - The appearance and pictures of weapons and armor.
  • Optimization - Increased the Spiked Reaper's weapon action damage.
  • Optimization - Lowered the stamina cost of the following weapons:

  • Fixed - Bug where the Stray Ring didn't actually increase experience gained

  • Modified - The Blacksmith sells all Vigilant gear at the start of the game.
  • Fixed - Enchantment effects of Blood Shards (HP%) and Amber Sparks (Backstab)
  • Fixed - A bug that using the Breath of the Ancient Guard will override the last Arcane Item used.
  • Attributes and Statuses
  • Optimization - Adjusted the calculation of Lightning Elemental damage, won't trigger error due to low Lightning Resistance.
  • Adjusted the calculation of Poison Elemental damage, now all poison effects last longer and deal more damage (including those afflicted on monsters).
  • Adjusted the calculation of Bleeding Affliction, now will interact normally with the monster's poise value. Damage value has been increased.
  • Fixed - Bug that will occur after the value of "Reduce Debuff Duration" goes above 100

Other

  • Modified - Side menu can be closed using Option (PS4) or Start (Xbox) buttons.
  • Optimize - The item/equipment descriptions in both Chinese and English.
  • Fixed - "Great Arcanist" and "Acrobat" achievements now trigger correctly.
  • Optimized the death sound effects of certain bosses.
  • Adjustment/Added - Can now use Fledgling's Blood Soul in the Unknown Space, and added a teleporter at the beginning section so player can return to the Catacombs.
  • Fixed - The bug that can't enter Leila's new home. (The one she bought in game)
  • Fixed - Hilda will repeatedly re-appear
  • Fixed - The bug that Tangerine can't receive the necklace.
  • Now talking with the Foreman Edward after defeating the Mine Pit Boss will immediately update the "Rescue The Survivors" mission.

Slaying Wretched Bugs and Building Terrible Worlds! - 22 October 2020 

Major Fixes

  • Can now open storage at save points
  • Fixed “Dephil's Will” achievement and final ending not showing issues.

  • Arcane Items are no longer broken when completing “The Draft in a Bottle” Quest

English translation updated - more English polish incoming

  • Improved saving system that writes immediately to disk to prevent data loss.
  • All skill points can now be reset on Cat Isle

Balance Adjustment

  • Optimized following monster stats: Spike Wolf, Crawling Miner, Creeping Skull, Young Poison Toad
  • Reduced stamina costs of dual blade skills: Crescent Spin and Full Moon Spin
  • Owl Claymore: increased attack damage by 15% and -30 stamina cost
  • Golden Hammer: +40 stamina cost
  • Increased the stamina cost of air dash
  • Reduce the Fallen Eyeball's cooldown

Mini Map Issues

  • Fixed Secret Trail’s save point not matching map pin location

Level Issues

  • Removed hittable cages in first chapter’s Catacomb and Miner’s Path
  • Decreased the height of the first stone wall at game opening, you can now jump with normal jump
  • On the lower left side of The Frozen Realm, the wind-blown cube will no longer cause a dead end
  • Players can now break a barrier from the other side of the Limestone Way to the Mine
  • Catacombs: Increased one-way destroyable obstacles

Added breakable boxes to Spider Lair

  • In the Upper Underground Hall, obstacles to secret passages have been removed

Map Through Issues

  • Map fall through in Miner's Dining Room fixed
  • Fixed the stock issue of the breakable cube in the Middle Underground Hall
  • Now players can’t jump out of the map from right corner of the Wasted Town
  • Sealed all opened areas, players can no longer air dash off the map

Effects Issues

  • Adjusted the effect size of the mechanical bow when using Elemental Enchantments
  • Adjusted the effective position of the Evading Slash skill
  • Entrance to the ship, the Mary Rose, has a hint to help guide the player
  • Fixed bug where certain effects are too bright.
