Mysterious Manuscript in Vigil: The Longest Night is a Key Item. Key Items are used to further progress the game's story as well as side quests, key items are found in specific locations or are given by a related NPC, some Key Items are also categorized as "miscellaneous items" that are dropped by enemies and are mainly used to be sold to Merchants to obtain Gold.
The manuscript is written in an incomprehensible language. As you uncover knowledge about the world, the manuscript expands. The longer the manuscript, the higher your Arcane Stat."

Acquisition
There's a total of 30 Manuscripts that can be acquired in a single playthrough. Collected Mysterious Manuscripts carry over to NG+. Missed Manuscripts can be collected in next cycles.
- Prologue - 8 total.
- 2x in Maye Town (Prologue) - Professor's Home. Unlock the door with Secret Key and read one of papers on the second floor.
- 2x in the Church Plaza (Prologue) - Empty Library. Read the open book on the second floor of the library.
- 1x in the Secret Cave (Prologue) - past the first elevator, in the corner of the platform with a Spike Hound that guards a chest.
- 1x in the Secret Cave (Prologue) - read a note on the altar with a bloody axe.
- 2x in the Catacombs (Prologue) - read a note in the room with a bloody torture device.
- Act 2 - 16 total.
- 2x in the Church Plaza - Library. Read the open book on the second floor of the library.
- 2x at the Church Plaza - Shimmer Church. Investigate six steles.
- 2x at the Maye Hall Square - Maye Hall, Workshop. Read a note on a bookshelf.
- 3x in the Flooded Area - Sunken Queen Anne's Revenge. Interact with an empty container that bears the Church's sign which can be fount at the rightmost part of the middle floor.
- 3x at Bufonite Lake - interact with an empty container bearing Vigilants' sign; next to the chest with the Ancient Vigilant's Daggers.
- 2x in Maye Town - Doctor's Home. Unlock the door with Doctor's Dormitory Key and read one of papers on the second floor.
- 2x Inside of the Giantwood, right before the Scholar of the Sacred Wood boss fight.
- Act 3 - 6 total.
- 2x in the Church Plaza - Shimmer Church. A reward for completing a sidequest called Light of the Truth.
- 2x in the Upper Underground Hall - near the first Mutated Executioner.
- 2x in the Middle Underground Hall - inside the rightmost room after the big spike pit.
