Axes in Vigil: The Longest Night is a weapon type. The Axe is one of the four types of weapon that Leila can use in battle to inflict damage onto the enemies and bosses she encounters, the Axe may constrict Leila's movements but it is capable of inflicting heavy powerful blows. Axes can be obtained by purchasing it from certain Merchants, dropped by some enemies or bosses, looted from chests, and can be acquired as a reward for completing a quest. Combat Mechanic
In Vigil: The Longest Night, each weapon has its own unique set of moves that changes Leila's stance and fighting style when she switches weapons. When an Axe is equipped, Leila can execute light to heavy attacks, she can also perform a backstep to evade enemy attacks, as well as placing the Axe in front of her to block any incoming attacks. A successful dodge will not inflict any damage while blocking reduces the damage taken - both dodging and blocking consumes a small amount of stamina whenever it is used.
Mastering the Axe
Vigil: The Longest Night introduces a character progression system in the game and for the Axe, it has its own skill tree. Whenever Leila levels up, she gains (1) Skill Point that can be used to unlock skills - unlocking skills for the Axe in the Axe Skill Tree will further increase Leila's mastery of using the Axe which allows her to execute more combat moves whenever she uses the Axe in battle as well as adding buffs such as increasing the damage of the Axe.

Missing Northwind, an axe found in the first ship you enter coming from the Wasted Warehouse lantern. After you get in, and manage to lower the wooden cargo dont go up the (broken) stairs, slide under them, and you'll get to an area with some slimes and the axe's chest

I have also found the "Spatium Axe". It is in the frozen place that you acces with the frozen ocarina. You can find it on the western side of the map right under a ledge where you push of a massive ice block, you need to drop down and jump back mid-air under the ledge you fell from. The chest is visible if you look down.

The description for the axe mechanic is inacurate (at time of writing). It describes blocking (which axes can't do) and after checking it is identical to the swords mechanical description but with the word axe in place of sword, so it looks like things went a little fast when writing.
