Duran is an NPC in Vigil the Longest Night. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. NPCs are characters that add contrast to the game's lore where they provide information, some are categorized as quest givers, while others are categorized as Merchants whom you can trade with or request for certain services.

Duran Information

Duran is a Gate Guard, stationed at Maye Bridge at the time of the game's events. He is fascinated by history and legends, especially the tales of the Glorious Guard, and exchanges letters with a fellow history enthusiast Isabella, who he has developed feelings for.

Bring Duran Collection of Duran's Letters which can be obtained from Steve in exchange for the Stinky Helmet. After a short discussion about the Glorious Guard Leila can return the letters to Duran. He will reward her with the Rose Ring. When Brood Mother is defeated Duran is found worrying about Isabella, as it's been a while since her last letter. After some encouragement from Leila Duran abandons his post to travel to Isabella. A local girl, also named Isabella, tells Leila that she gifted Duran a special ring which she stole from her grandmother, for Duran to propose to his Isabella with it. Duran's fellow Gate Guard, Randall, is both appalled and annoyed by Duran's stunt, and is sure that Duran will give up and crawl back crying in no time.

In Act 2 it is revealed that librarian August is a descendent of Duran and Isabella. The two travelled together for a while, and eventually returned to Maye Town to rebuild the Library. August wears Isabella's ring on his neck.

If the sidequest Glorious Guard is not completed then Duran never leaves. In that case August does not appear in Act 2 either.
