Cubic Crystal in Vigil: The Longest Night is a Key Item.  Key Items are used to further progress the game's story as well as side quests, key items are found in specific locations or are given by a related NPC, some Key Items are also categorized as "miscellaneous items" that are dropped by enemies and are mainly used to be sold to Merchants to obtain Gold.

Cubic Crystal Acquisition

There's a total of three Cubic Crystals.

• Dropped by Kelpie, Lord of Tide.
• Dropped by Erupting Flesh Cluster.
• Dropped by Lord of the Misty Lake.

Cubic Crystal Notes & Tips

• Cubic Crystals are parts of Trapezohedron seal which was placed upon Giantwood many years ago to prevent Scholar of the Sacred Wood from breaking out. The seal was divided between three groups - Maye Guard, Shimmer Church, and the Vigilants - each part to be taken away and hidden, but for one reason or another neither group managed to get their shard very far.
  • Vigilants were ambushed by traitors of their order at Bufonitte Lake. Their crystal box can be found before Lord of the Misty Lake's arena, in a small cave.
  • Shimmer Church's ship, Sunken Queen Anne's Revenge, was attacked by sea monsters that were attracted by the power of the Cubic Crystal. Their empty box can be found in the lower eastern corner of Sunken Queen Anne's Revenge in Flooded Area.
  • According to a note that can be found in Doctor's home, Nordell was the one who discovered the third Cubic Crystal. Maye Guard's box can be found in Catacombs, in a small room that connects Upper Catacombs with Maye Sewer, but it's not clear whether it was always hidden there, or Nordell and Doctor brought it there.
    • Same note hints that Nordell was the one who brought Cubic Crystal to the Mine.
