Captain Carl is an NPC in Vigil the Longest Night. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. Captain Carl Information
Captain Carl was the captain of Maye Guard. When Dephil arrived to Maye Town Maye Guard and the Professor were busy investigating a that appeared outside of the town and searching for a missing young couple Bruna and Gram. However, both tasks weren't progressing much as Captain Carl did not have enough people, and the Professor didn't have much free time. Captain Carl asked Dephil to help them with the investigation.
If the player speaks to Captain Carl after initiating sidequest Inform the Captain they will get Iron Halberd, which initially was meant to be used against The Craving Terror. The Captain will briefly fill them on the current events and direct them towards the waterfall in the Valley. If the player speaks to Captain Carl without speaking to the Vice Captain first he will share slightly more details regarding Bruna's case, but the player won't be able to obtain Iron Halberd anymore.
When asked about Sacredwood Medicine the Captain mentions that heathens used to gather around the Sacredwood before Bruna's disappearance, but won't be able to give any better directions. After Brood Mother is defeated he will complain about somebody breaking into the Outpost's storage, but will stress that nothing was stolen.
