Ancient Seal is a Quest in Vigil: The Longest Night. Quests are tasks given by the various NPCs in Maye, Leila can obtain unique rewards for completing these tasks. To view your progress of a quest, open the side menu, and cycle to Leila's notes.
Ancient Seal Objectives
- Collect Cubic Crystal x3.
- (Optional) complete subquest Mysterious Person.
- Choose what to do with the Crystals:
- Give Crystals to the Doctor.
- Give Crystals to Hilda.
- Use Crystals yourself at the Top of the Giantwood.

Ancient Seal Walkthrough
- Ancient Seal does not have a questgiver. The quest triggers when you do one of the following:
- Collect a Cubic Crystal.
- Trigger Mysterious Person (which is a subquest of Ancient Seal) by reading a note at Asylum's door or by speaking to Hilda in Maye Outskirts.
- (Optional) Complete Mysterious Person subquest.
- Collect three Cubic Crystals using directions provided in Mysterious Plague quest.
- IMPORTANT! Try to finish everything you can before beating your 3rd boss and collecting the last Crystal, as some side quests might break.
- When you have the Crystals, speak to the Doctor in the Asylum. He will ask Leila to bring Daisy, who is with Dawn in Dawn's House.
- Return to the Asylum and speak to the Doctor. There you will have three options:
- (Point of no return) Agree to give Cubic Crystals to the Doctor.
- (Point of no return) Refuse to give Cubic Crystals to the Doctor. Hilda will appear outside and will ask Leila to meet her at the Top of the Giantwood.
- Ask to think about it. This answer allows to continue exploring without getting locked into different endings of the quest.
- Lastly, you can go to Top of the Giantwood without speaking to the Doctor and place the Crystals yourself.
Ancient Seal Outcomes
- Give Crystals to the Doctor:
- The game immediately skips to Act 3, which can fail certain side quests.
- Inside the Giantwood becomes available for exploration, but Scholar of the Sacred Wood is not there.
- Phantom Daggers, Sword of the Other God, and Trapezohedron cannot be obtained.
- Hilda dies.
- Plague Doctor's fight has two stages instead of one, with attacks of the 2nd one being based on those of Scholar of the Sacred Wood.
- Use Crystals at the Top of the Ginatwood:
- No time skip.
- Inside the Giantwood becomes available for exploration in Act 2, Scholar of the Sacred Wood is present.
- You get Trapezohedron for breaking the seal, and Sword of the Other God for defeating Scholar of the Sacred Wood.
- Phantom Daggers cannot be optained.
- Hilda dies.
- Plague Doctor has only one phase.
- Refuse to give Crystals to the Doctor, follow Hilda to the Top of the Giantwood:
- No time skip.
- Hilda gifts Phantom Daggers at the Top of the Giantwood.
- You get Trapezohedron for breaking the seal.
- The Truth subquest starts, which consists of exploring Inside the Giantwood.
- Inside the Giantwood becomes available for exploration in Act 2, Scholar of the Sacred Wood is present.
- You get Sword of the Other God for defeating Scholar.
- Hilda survives.
- Plague Doctor has only one phase.
Ancient Seal Notes, Tips, and Trivia
- Giving Crystals to the Doctor does not lock you out of any endings as long as Mysterious Person was completed and Daisy's Bracelet was acquired from Hilda.
- Overall it's advised not to give Crystals to the Doctor. By doing this you miss out on several collectibles and an entire bossfight, and all you get for that is a slightly modified mandatory bossfight.
- The only way to save Hilda is to give Crystals to her.
